Hi Phil! I think your filmmaking story is impressive! Well done. Did you go to film school or university to study the field, and did that have any impact on your future? The reason I ask, Is because I to am interested in which route to take to be a feature film director. — Asked by Anonymous

I didn’t go to film school or university… but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good idea. I taught myself filmmaking through making LOTS of short films from an early age and used these to get a foothold into the industry. There is no proven way into becoming a feature film director. You just need loads of experience, some great short films under your belt, a great script and, ideally, know some rich folk who will fund your film!

Universities and film schools are great if you need some guidance and direction to start your craft. Also, most they have great equipment so you can spend 3 years making shorts without having to pay for the camera and editing gear yourself! Good luck!
